Textbook Adoption Committee: Apply to help!
District Leadership Team

Parents, we need your help!

Parents, we need your help!  This is the year that Jefferson County Schools selects science curriculum and textbooks that will be used in our school district for the next 8 years.  We will have a committee of science teachers that will make a recommendation to the school board around which textbook series to choose.  In addition to the teacher committee, we need a parent committee to share their input on this decision.

We are looking for parents who currently have children in Jefferson County Schools to serve on the Science Adoption Committee (TCA 49-7-2207).  The parent committee will review the sample textbook materials from the approved state list and meet in the spring semester to provide feedback around those materials.   Materials go through a rigorous state-level process to ensure they meet criteria and are aligned to Tennessee state standards before they make the approved state list.   Our local teachers and parents select what we think will work best for our students from that list.

If you are willing to serve on the Science Adoption Parent Committee, please fill out this short application by October 11, 2024.  We will review the applications and get back to you with the next steps.  We would like to select one parent from every school to serve on the committee.  If we have multiple applications from parents at the same school, we will select the parent with the most background in science.  However, all parents will be given the opportunity to review the sample materials and provide comments even if they are not on the committee.

Thank you for helping us make important curriculum decisions for students in Jefferson County!
