Social Media Threats: Director's Call
District Leadership Team

Transcript of Director of School's Family Update Call

I wanted to provide parents information with an ongoing problem that many districts including ours is facing.

Threats of violence and destruction have been posted to social media by students. These threats, at the least, are a major disruption to the school day and can change your child’s school placement to the alternative school setting. If threats are found to be credible, it will result in an arrest and felony charges.

All threats are taken seriously and investigated by school teams, district personnel  and law enforcement.  Law enforcement will open an investigation and make home visits as part of the investigation. Jefferson County now has a Homeland Security Agent assigned to work within our county.

School safety is a top priority within the district and requires a team effort from the entire community to keep our schools safe. Please speak with your child to let them know the importance of reporting information they have to you and the proper school authorities. Let them know you love them and your expectations for their behavior at school.
